NHS Access & Security Multi Million Pound Project

Following a stringent tender process Altegra were awarded the access & security works at Yeovil District Hospital. This included new lift lobby doors, aluminium windows, self closing fire doors and access & security measures.

During COVID the hospital had to adapt to new ways of working, as a result the A&E Department required a new aluminium screening entrance way which allowed them to carry out COVID checks under shelter before patients entered the building. We also provided a new front entrance sliding door system and replacement aluminium windows. As the majority of work was carried out during the height of the pandemic we adapted our working practices often working in ICU units which required us to follow stringent PPE and safety checks, including frequent tool cleaning. We also provided an intercom system within the ICU/Covid wards to allow staff to have two way conversations without the need to remove their full PPE/hazard suits.

As part of the project we have helped the hospital provide extra security measures for the hospital including new CCTV systems and a major overhaul of the hospitals access control system. Whereby the hospital went keyless, switching to a fob system. The fob system can be individually programmed to the staff member to allow them access to various areas, drug cupboards, server rooms. This also includes lift system that can be overridden in a ‘code blue’ emergency and extra security measures on the wards.
